CHAN: Harambee Stars name final squad as McCarthy forced into changes

Shabana’s midfielder Brian Michira, Tusker’s Midfielder Chrispin Erambo, and Sofapaka’s forward Edward Omondi have been drafted in as replacements for Mohammed Bajaber, Swaleh Pamba, and Brian Musa, who will now miss the tournament
Harambee Stars head coach Benni McCarthy has made three adjustments to his final 25-man squad for the upcoming African Nations Championship (CHAN), scheduled to kick off on August 2, 2025.
Shabana’s midfielder Brian Michira, Tusker’s Midfielder Chrispin Erambo, and Sofapaka’s forward Edward Omondi have been drafted in as replacements for Mohammed Bajaber, Swaleh Pamba, and Brian Musa, who will now miss the tournament.
On Monday, McCarthy had to accept the withdrawal of playmaker Mohamed Bajaber, who left camp to attend to his pending transfer move from Kenya Police to Tanzania's Simba SC.
According to Football Kenya Federation, the Police FC attacking midfielder has signed a two-year deal with the Tanzanian Premier League champions Simbas SC and is expected to link up with his new teammates immediately for their pre-season tour in Egypt.
Previously, forwards Emmanuel Osoro and Moses Shummah also both exited the squad earlier this month after sealing moves to Zambian Premier League sides.
With just a 3 days to go, Harambee Stars are now fully focused on their opening match against DR Congo on August 3 at the Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani. Kenya will also face Angola, Morocco, and Zambia in Group A, with the support of the home crowd expected to play a big role in their debut CHAN campaign.
Kick off on Sunday will be at 3 PM Kenyan time.
